Kids' Crafts for Dogs Tutorial #1: Collar Dress Up

I recently posted about someone from the Martha Stewart Show contacting me to see if I had any ideas for puppy crafts for kids. As you can imagine, I was over the moon! Before you ask... I still don't know if they will ever use these ideas on the show, but I was very pleased to be considered and I'm really happy with the ideas I developed. I'll be sharing all four ideas with you this week in how-to posts including step by step instructions and printable templates. This first tutorial will show you how to create felt ties, bones and flowers that slide on your pet's collar for an extra special decoration.

Puppy Collar Dress Up
Create a tie, flower or monogrammed bone with an opening that slides on over your puppy’s collar.and assist them with gluing and decorating. Best suited for children ages 6-7 and up. Pre-cut fabric pieces for younger children.

Materials:
1-3 sheets of different colored felt
Fabric glue
Optional: glitter glue, buttons, embroidery thread or felt cutouts. You can also use paper or fun foam for this project instead of the felt.

1. Print the templates provided below at 8.5" x 11". Using the templates, cut out the large felt shapes and fold in half where light blue line is shown.

3. Apply fabric glue at the top and bottom of the felt pieces, leaving the rest of the space between shapes open - this is where the collar will slide through.

4. Decorate with felt cut outs, glitter glue, buttons or stitching.

5. Slide your pet’s collar through the opening for a beautiful spring collar corsage or a
smart looking neck tie for your pup!
